about us
Our StoryFounded in 2010, The Ad Astra Theatre Ensemble is a grassroots theatre company born from the love and desire to produce new and interesting works of theatre. We believe in the transformative power of theatre, what it can do for a community and ultimately, the human spirit.Our company sprang from small beginnings, and has blossomed over time. Each year, our season is performed in different venues across Topeka including plays, musicals, cabarets, festivals and more. Our MissionThe Ad Astra Theatre Ensemble would like to educate, enlighten and entertain our audiences by providing thought provoking works that ask questions, encourage thought and uplift. We aim to improve our community by providing more exposure to the arts.

Season Planning- Nov. 2011Hello All. Welcome to our inaugural blogging experience. This is where we will bring our thoughts and insights into our processes. We want to share rehearsal experiences, our thoughts on the state of the arts in our community, and our experiences behind the scenes. This month is exciting for us. We are meeting soon to put the final details on our 2012 Season. We are super excited to bring these new, exciting plays and musicals to you. I want to take a second to talk about our process of planning and how we've come to the place we are now. Season planning is a tough balance to figure out. We all have personal favorites we want to see produced, and we also have pieces that we know would work well, but we are not sure if they are the best fit for the company. We ultimately have to keep you in mind. The audience and our mission as a company have to be in the forefront of our minds. We want to produce work that is important, and new, and interesting, but also work that will engage and excited and entertain our audiences. We met initially at the end of our summer to discuss the positives and negatives of our 2011 Summer Season. This conversation led into a long discussion about the type of pieces we want to do. We decided on a list, where everyone brought their own ideas about plays and musicals that they wanted us to consider. After this meeting, we ordered scripts and recordings and we set out to read. I can assure you our readying list is large and includes a varied amount of material. We have something exciting in every piece, so regardless of what is ultimately chosen, we promise to offer something for everyone. We know money is tight right now, but we will have many fundraising events coming up, and we could always use people who are willing to help in anyway they can!4.) You can audition. We will announce when and if we are holding auditions for any of our productions. You can come out and join the company in creating homegrown theatre!5.)
